“I love color! With a palette knife, I build overlapping layers of oil paint using the wet-on-wet technique. The process is a full sensory experience—the smooshing and blending of paint, carving into wet layers, the scent of impasto, and the scrape of the knife on canvas. Watching textures and colors build keeps me coming back for more.”

Born and raised in rural northeast Iowa, Emily Fair developed a deep love for nature. A college 3D Fundamentals class sparked her passion for fine art, leading to degrees in art and education from Coe College. While she explored various mediums, oil painting became her focus.

For over 20 years, Emily has worked in fine art, gaining insight as an artist, gallerist, and collector. Living in Colorado for 20 years, she finds endless inspiration in the landscape. A  hike through McClure Pass ignited her fascination with aspens—now a central subject in her textured, color-rich paintings.

Emily owns 45° Gallery with her husband, Reed, is a proud mom to Hazel, an avid gardener, and a home chef. Occasionally, she also works with clay.
