Introducing
Clyde Tullis
Pueblo, CO
(b. 1951, Colorado)
I was born and raised in Colorado Springs, CO, and had one art teacher from elementary through high school—Archie Musick, a WPA artist and member of the Broadmoor Art Academy. Archie believed drawing was the foundation of all art disciplines, and he instilled that skill in us.
My interest in ceramics began during my sophomore year at the University of Colorado. Under Henry Mead’s instruction, I learned to make stoneware pots, build and fire kilns, and formulate clays and glazes. That was over 50 years ago.
After earning my BFA, I returned to Colorado Springs, set up a studio, and focused on functional pottery while teaching at Meadowfound Studios, Bemis School of Art, and community workshops. My wife and I opened Raven Hill Gallery, showcasing regional ceramics, and I founded Mudlark Pottery, creating terra cotta bird feeders for a national market.
For the past 30 years, I’ve enjoyed life in Colorado—skiing, fly fishing, and creating ceramics, from Raku to functional stoneware. I now live in Pueblo, Colorado, and continue making stoneware—doing what many retired people do: making art!
