Brenda Jones is a contemporary sculptor based in Peyton, CO. Growing up in 1960s rural Kansas, her work pays homage to the gender roles imbedded in that time period and rural American place. “I tell stories in my work and invite you to interpret them on various levels as you take the visual journey,” she says.
Her passion for art began early—trading drawings for homework answers in grade school—before studying under a Japanese art mentor in high school. She earned a BA in Art Education and an MA in Art History and Ceramics from Wichita State University, later teaching in Kansas and Colorado.
Jones’ work has been exhibited across the U.S., earning Bestof Show awards and scholarships to institutions like the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Anderson Ranch. She’s traveled to Argentina and Japan on Fulbright studies and was a resident at Red Lodge Clay Center in Montana. She is represented by Strecker-Nelson Gallery in Manhattan, KS, and 45º in Colorado Springs, CO.
