Today: A Lifelong Obsession
Now in her 90s, Lorraine is still painting. Her current work is bold, emotionally charged, and deeply personal — a practice that’s less about product and more about release. “It’s an obsession,” she laughs. “But a healthy one, I think.”
She paints what moves her — whether it’s the abstract dance of colors or the aspen trees she’s fallen in love with. “We had birch trees back east, but not like these. I enjoy painting them. I like the textures.” For Lorraine, painting is not about making something “important.” As she says, “It’s always an expression of myself. It still is.”
The final two pieces in this retrospective are recent works that feel raw, confident, and utterly free. “When somebody else finds joy in something I found joy in — that’s a gift. A true gift.”
