(b. 1957, New York)

I was born and raised in the Mid-Hudson Valley in New York State.  I fell in love with clay after taking my first ceramics class in high school and studied Ceramics at the State University of New York in Potsdam, NY.  After earning my degree, I worked for a few years as a production potter in Massachusetts.

Artist Statement:

Many years ago I took a painting class. There was a boy with his studio space near mine.  He was quiet and serious, and I don’t think I ever really talked with him. I remember he used large canvases and  neon colors—lime greens and hot pinks. He then would glue rows upon rows of small hard candies to the surface. Students, as they do, would periodically walk through and discuss other students’ work. They would invariably spend time at his space wondering about what he was saying though his work. They had many theories.

I heard that when asked by the instructor what he was conveying through his art, he simply said,

“I think it’s pretty.”
