Reed Fair, originally from Cedar Rapids, IA, discovered his passion for art while studying ceramics and photography at Coe College. After college and seven years in custom framing, Reed felt drawn to a more hands-on and expressive creative outlet, leading him to set up his own home ceramic studio.
In 2017, Reed began crafting his first collection of sculptural ceramics, focusing primarily on raku-fired pieces. One of his notable collections features wall-hung cubes with unique textures created from everyday objects like drill bits, forks, and tent stakes. Another collection is inspired by the aspen tree, using modern, simplified lines that allow a white crackle glaze to take center stage. These collections offer flexibility, allowing collectors to choose a single piece or curate an entire wall of Reed’s work.
Reed also creates a functional pottery collection with a rustic, handcrafted appeal and a minimalist design. These pieces are made from a white clay body with a dark blue-gray glaze accent and a matte finish. The horizontal lines are etched by hand, giving each piece a unique and organic feel. The combination of the matte texture and hand-etched details creates a timeless quality, making the pottery perfect for both everyday use and special occasions.Â
Reed’s work blends craftsmanship, artistry, and a deep connection to nature, with each piece reflecting his meticulous attention to detail and love for the handmade.
