Carlos Salazar

Pueblo, CO

(b. 1973, Columbia)

Salazar Arenas transfers his environment, sometimes complex, sometimes simple, to canvas. His work is the plastic conversion of an omnipresent fierceness that provokes, by contrast, tenderness, complicity, and even irony. If the media content is commonplace, from a recognized material, a distancing when composing on the unusual plane and always novelty of the canvas the synthesis of a disturbing reality. Color, stain, and even calligraphy are at the service of that intention of estrangement to allow the viewer a spaced judgment and the gain of objectivity in front of the topics that it deals with. The work of Salazar Arenas implies office and testimony but, above all, It is a heart-rending cry that highlights the dizzying reality in which we live in today’s world. – Fernando Toledo
