Ever since I can remember, I have been an artist. It’s who I am, and it always makes me feel at home. When it came time for me to decide where to go to school and what to go for, it was a no-brainer. I was admitted to the University of Texas at Austin in the Studio Art program in 2002 and graduated in 2006 with a BFA in Studio Art. While I was in school, I took drawing, painting, ceramics, metals, and printmaking. My favorites were always drawing and painting.
I met my husband while in school at Texas and we moved to Colorado Springs together for his first Air Force assignment. Our first adventure! We ended up staying for 8 years.
Colorado was amazing, and we loved every second of it. It’s in Colorado Springs that I learned how to apply my interest in art to my life. Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t have it all figured out! But I had a few art shows in a coffee shop where I worked (my art professors would cringe…),sold a few pieces and also got commissions. I also had a few other local shows in a restaurant and art gallery. A friend of mine opened up a gallery in Old Colorado City called 45 Degree, and she made me promise I’d show my work at her gallery. Of course I would! I painted some animals with my colorful style and they sold quickly. I was so pleased! It seemed I had found my niche.
We moved back to our roots in Texas so that we could be closer to our parents, and they could be closer to their grandkids. We have two beautiful kids, Waylon and Coralee. So far, it’s been great to be back in Texas!
